Pedagogical Implications of Corpus-based Approaches to ELT in Pakistan

    Get PDF
The advent of corpora has opened new vistas for language study and restructured linguists’ and academicians’ approaches to lexicography and English language teaching (ELT). After 1980s, the use of online language corpora and computer tools garnered tremendous attention of English language teachers and academicians. Keeping in view the modern trends and needs of learners, this research focused on the practical implications of online corpora for ELT and its utility in the Pakistani context. Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English (MICASE) is used as a reference corpus for this research. MICASE is a collection of nearly 1.8 million words of transcribed speech (almost two hundred hours of recording). The transcribed data of MICASE includes wide range of speech events like seminars, lectures, advisory meetings and lab sessions. The study identified the utility of lexical items at syntactic level and its usage in various contexts. Furthermore, the layers of meanings and uses of lexicons through in-depth study of right and left collocates were explored in the reference corpus. The results showed that lexicons can be used as noun, verb and adjective depending upon the context of the study and right and left collocates play a significant role in understanding the meanings of lexical items in various contexts. Thus, this strategy can be fruitful for English language learners and academic discourse community who are interested in understanding the versatile uses of lexical items and their contextual meaning. Keywords: collocate, context, corpus, ELT, MICAS

The cloud computing virtualization stage, services as another method for giving computing resources, gives clients available and financially savvy benefits, and brings hazards in the meantime. In this way, ensuring the privacy, trustworthiness, and accessibility of client information turns out to be significantly more basic to distributed computing frameworks. Huawei gives the virtualization stage security answers to confront the dangers and difficulties postured to the distributed computing framework. This article portrays the techniques and measures received by Huawei cloud computing virtualization stage to react to the security dangers and dangers to distributed computing frameworks. Huawei cloud computing virtualization stage is intended to give secure and solid server virtualization solutions for clients

Weather Forecasting Pridiction using Mamdani Fuzzifier

A climate expectation display is under study in view of the neural system and fuzzy surmising framework, and after that apply it to anticipate every day fuzzy precipitation given meteorological premises for testing. A "fuzzy ranked based neural system", which reenacts successive relations among fuzzy sets utilizing the manufactured neural system. It is outstanding that the requirement for exact climate expectation is clear while thinking about the advantages. Nonetheless, the over the top quest for exactness in climate expectation makes a portion of the "precise" forecast comes about pointless and the numerical forecast show is regularly intricate and tedious

COVID-19 Prediction Infrastructure Using Deep Learning

Coronavirus can lead to respiratory illnesses ranging from mild to severe, and even death, which makes early detection critical. However, current COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) detection methods are not only expensive but also time-consuming. This poses a challenge, especially with an increasing number of patients and demand for testing kits. Waiting for test results for a few days is not ideal, as the outbreak can spread quickly in the meantime. To address this issue, we propose a COVID-19 prediction infrastructure using deep learning. This innovative android-based application uses a Convolutional Neural Network model, trained on a custom dataset with an accuracy of 97 percent, to predict whether COVID-19 is present or not. With this fast and low-cost approach, users can quickly detect COVID-19 and take appropriate actions to reduce the risk of transmission

High Frequency of Class 2 and 3 Integrons Related to Drug-Resistance in Clinical Isolates of Diarrheagenic E. coli in Iran

Background: Integrons are mobile genetic elements able to obtain the antibiotic resistance gene cassettes. The prevalence of integrons in the Enterobacteriaceae family has been varied and played an important role in the development of the drug resistant bacteria. The present study aimed to investigate the contribution of class 2 and 3 integrons in drug resistant Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli strains.Materials and Methods: The 164 Diarrheagenic E. coli collected from feces samples of children in the Yasuj –Iran and all isolates were identified by standard biochemical tests. The antimicrobial susceptibility for 14 antibiotics, which are used conventionally was determined by disk diffusion. The presence of class 2 and 3 integrons in all isolates was investigated by PCR.Results: Of 164 E. coli isolates from children, 80.49% carried class 2 integron and the length of the amplicons ranged from 800 bp to 2 kb. Class 3 integrons were identified among 24 E. coli isolates. All the E.coli isolates were susceptible to imipenem and the greatest resistance was correspondent to nalidixic acid. A significant correlation was revealed between Class 2 integron and resistance to kanamycin, amikacin, gentamicin, ceftazidime, chloramphenicol and cephalexin. The presence of class 3 integron was significantly associated with resistance to ampicillin, gentamicin, streptomycin, kanamycin, tetracycline and trimetoprime-sulfametoxazol.Conclusion: The results indicated that integrons are widespread in Diarrheagenic E. coli and its carriage contributed significantly to the emergence of resistance among Diarrheagenic E. coli. However, factors leading to the wide spread of integrons are still to be determined.

Species relationship in the genus Silene L. Section Auriculatae (Caryophyllaceae) based on morphology and RAPD analyses

Morphological and RAPD studies were performed on Silene species of the sect. Auriculatae growing in Iran for the first time using phenetic, parsimony and Bayesian analyses. Trees obtained differed in the species groupings although agreed in some parts. Parsimony and Bayesian analyses of morphological characters produced some clades which were not well supported by bootstrap and clade credibility values but UPGMA tree showed a high cophenetic correlation. Grouping based on morphological characters partly support the species affinity given in Flora Iranica. Out of 40 RAPD primers used 15 primer produced reproducible polymorphic bands. In total 347 bands were produced out of which 340 bands were polymorph and 7 bands were monomorph. Among the species studied S. goniocaula showed the highest number of RAPD bands (184), while S. commelinifolia var. isophylla showed the lowest number (123). Some of the species studied showed the presence of specific bands which may be use for species discrimination. NJ and Bayesian trees of RAPD data partly agree with morphological trees obtained
